Dental Exams and Hygiene
A healthy mouth, fresh breath, and your overall health are supported by regular dental exams and cleanings. A beautiful smile and a healthy mouth can improve your relationships and help you live better. The team at Alpharetta Dental Care can help with exams and cleanings in a compassionate and comfortable environment.
A healthy body depends on oral hygiene. Tooth decay and gum disease can be caused by tartar and plaque buildup that has been left untreated. Getting your teeth checked and cleaned regularly can prevent these health problems. Keep your gums and teeth in optimal condition with regular visits to Alpharetta Dental Care. Our team can improve and maintain your oral hygiene.
Oral hygiene is imperative to maintaining a healthy body. Tartar and plaque build-up can lead to tooth decay and gum disease when left unattended. Regular checkups and cleanings can prevent many future problems. Let us help you ensure your teeth and gums stay in optimal health as we strive to improve and maintain your oral hygiene.
Key Benefits
- Regular checkups can prevent gum disease
- Clean teeth and healthy gums
- Whiter smile
- Prevent cavities
- Reduce teeth sensitivity
- Freshen breath
Dental Sealant
Prevent tooth decay with dental sealants! Sealants keep plaque and food particles out of your teeth by covering and filling deep grooves with a thin, plastic-like covering. Sealants are effective on back teeth that are hard to reach for adequate brushing and flossing.
Keep your teeth healthier and your smile bright with dental sealants! Contact us today to learn more.
Gum Disease Treatment
Gum care is an essential part of oral hygiene, so be sure to make it part of your daily routine. Flossing to clean below the gum line is key to taking care of your gums. Our team can assess the health of your gums and provide treatment options for inflammation or periodontal disease (gum disease).
What is Periodontal (Gum) Disease?
The bacteria in plaque and dental calculus can cause the gum tissue and bone surrounding your teeth to break down. This progressive disease can lead to tooth loss if left untreated. It can also contribute to health problems including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and dementia. The Canadian Dental Association states that 7 in 10 adults will experience gum disease in their lifetime. But gum disease is preventable and can be reversed if we catch it early! That’s why it’s so important to see us for regular dental checkups and cleanings.
If it’s been more than 6 months since your last professional cleaning, request an appointment today!
Oral Cancer Screening
The health of your body depends on the health of your mouth. Bacteria in your mouth can spread to the rest of your body, as can oral cancer. We’ll screen for the presence of oral cancer during your regular dental exam. Early detection is essential to keeping your mouth and body healthy.
Symptoms of oral cancer include:
- Oral sores that bleed easily and heal slowly
- Jaw or ear pain while swallowing
- Numbness
- Lumps in mouth and throat
Sedation Dentistry
At Alpharetta Dental Care, we use advanced technology and equipment and offer sedation dentistry to make even the most anxious patient as comfortable as possible. Your comfort is always our top priority.
Stress about going to the dentist can cause patients to skip regular appointments, which can be detrimental to your oral and overall health! But we’re here to help with sedation dentistry.
Key Benefits
- Eliminate stress and anxiety
- Get the dental treatments you require
- Look forward to your next visit
Pediatric Dentistry
Gentle pediatric dental appointments will keep your child’s teeth and gums clean and healthy. Children’s teeth are constantly changing as they grow. Unfortunately, they are also prone to cavities. But regular visits and proactive hygiene can maintain your child’s oral health, preventing potentially irreversible damage to your child’s teeth.
The team at Alpharetta Dental Care offers gentle care for your child as well as teaching them the importance of good oral hygiene, helping them to develop good brushing and flossing habits that will support healthy teeth and gums.
Key Benefits
- Advanced techniques and technology keep your child comfortable.
- We’ll monitor your child’s dental development.
- We’ll educate your child and give them home care instructions.
Periodontal Therapy
A range of treatments are available to combat and manage periodontal disease. Dr. Keni Léonce Wilkinson and her associates will examine your mouth, assessing the severity of the disease. Next, they’ll work with you to create a customized treatment plan. If possible, we’ll manage your disease with minimally invasive treatments. However, severe cases may require surgical treatment.
Non-Surgical Treatment
Scaling and root planing is a non-surgical treatment that uses an ultrasonic cleaning device to remove plaque and tartar from your teeth, including the roots. After removing plaque and tartar from your teeth, we will plane (smooth out) your teeth to prevent harmful bacteria from attaching to them. This allows your gum tissue to reattach and heal.
If your gum disease is diagnosed early, this treatment may be enough to treat the disease, but please remember that aftercare is crucial. To prevent gum disease from recurring, please follow these guidelines:
- Brush and floss daily.
- Maintain a healthy diet.
- Visit the dentist regularly.
- Avoid tobacco products.
Remember, caring for your teeth properly is essential to preventing gum disease and other problems.
Surgical Treatment Options
If your condition is severe, our dentists may recommend surgical treatment for your periodontal disease. The treatment recommended will be based on your individual needs.
Pocket Depth Reduction
“Periodontal pockets” can form when gums detach from your teeth, creating small gaps where bacteria can gather. Pocket reduction, also called flap surgery or gingivectomy, reduces the depth of these pockets. During the treatment, we fold back the gum tissue to remove bacteria, plaque, and tartar. Next, we move the healthy tissue back into place and attach it to the tooth.
Bone and Tissue Regeneration
Bones and tissues in your mouth can deteriorate if severe periodontal disease is left untreated. We can replace supporting bone and tissue with a bone grafting technique. We’ll also clean your mouth to remove the bacteria, plaque, and tartar that caused the disease. Lastly, we may use special proteins to encourage new tissue growth.
Soft Tissue Grafting (Gum Grafting)
A common symptom of gum disease is receding gums, which leaves your tooth roots exposed. Gum recession can increase sensitivity and expose your teeth to more severe damage. We can resolve the issue by taking healthy tissue and applying it to the affected area. Gum grafting will restore your gum line and protect your teeth. This procedure can also be performed for cosmetic reasons.
Sleep Apnea Treatment
If you snore or have difficulty breathing at night, you may have sleep apnea. Loud snoring that disrupts your sleep and the sleep of those around you can be caused by your airway being partially obstructed.
The disruption of regular breathing patterns and possible stoppage of breathing is commonly referred to as obstructive sleep apnea and can be hazardous to your health. The experienced team at Alpharetta Dental Care can help.
How Can Your Dentist Help?
We offer a range of solutions to reduce or correct sleep apnea. We’ll begin with a consultation to gain a clear understanding of your condition. After we review your oral needs, we’ll develop a treatment plan tailored for you. A common and highly effective treatment is a custom-made mouth guard that maintains proper jaw position during your sleep. The increased airflow results in a more restful sleep with fewer interruptions.
For deeper sleep, increased energy, and a healthier you, turn to Alpharetta Dental Care for sleep apnea treatment. Contact us today to schedule a consultation!
TMJ Treatment
TMJ, or temporomandibular joint treatment, helps the joint that connects the jaw to the temporal bones of your skull. The TMJ allows you to open and close your mouth as well as moving it up and down and side to side. This joint is key to speech, chewing, and yawning. Pain and other symptoms with the TMJ are referred to as Temporomandibular Joint Disorder or TMD.
Common Causes of TMJ Disorder or TMD
Problems with the joint or the jaw muscles attached to it can be caused by injuries to the head, neck, or face; stress; patterns of clenching or grinding teeth (usually at night); and arthritis pain that causes tightening and clenching of the jaw muscles or face.
Common Symptoms of TMJ Disorder
- Lockjaw
- Clicking or popping jaw
- Difficulty opening or closing jaw
- Headaches
- Earaches
- Pain and tenderness in the face, neck or jaw
- Difficulty or pain while chewing
- Dizziness
- Ringing in ears
- Upper shoulder pain
- Toothaches
Tooth Extraction
The team at Alpharetta Dental can improve your smile by extracting unhealthy or unattractive teeth, making room for implants or creating space for healthy teeth. A tooth may need to be extracted because of injury, decay, gum disease, overcrowding, or wisdom teeth. Extraction can restore your mouth’s appearance and function.
Key Benefits
- Making room for a healthy implant
- Preventing infection
- Creating space
Removing a tooth can improve your oral health and the aesthetics of your smile.
Wisdom Teeth Removal
Infection, crowding, and decay can all be caused by wisdom teeth and could pose a risk to your oral health. Because wisdom teeth aren’t integral to your mouth’s structure, we may suggest that you have them removed. Wisdom tooth removal is a safe and painless procedure that will improve your oral health.
Key Benefits
- Simple and common procedure
- Prevent infection/decay
- Prevent crowding
Some reasons for removal include:
- An impacted tooth that cannot break through the gums correctly because the jawbone isn’t big enough to facilitate it
- A partially erupted tooth that has broken through the gum and cannot form a proper seal, which may result in infection
- An angled tooth that has erupted, causing possible oral pain and risk to surrounding teeth
Dental Bridges
Do you feel uncomfortable smiling because of a missing tooth? We have the answer! Dental bridges fill the gaps created by missing teeth. A bridge is made up of two or more crowns (abutment teeth). During the dental bridge procedure, we’ll begin by taking impressions of your mouth to create a custom-made bridge. The new bridge will integrate seamlessly, allowing you to chew and bite properly. Teeth on either side of the missing tooth are prepared in the same way a crown is fitted. They can be supported with either a natural tooth or a dental implant. Lastly, we’ll go over the at-home care you’ll need to ensure your bridge is effective and long lasting.
Key Benefits
- Restore Missing Teeth
- Natural-Looking Solution
- Improved Chewing Function
- Prevent Teeth Shifting
- Durable and Reliable
- Boosts Confidence
A dental bridge will let you love your smile again! Contact us today to schedule a consultation.
