Perio Protect®
in Alpharetta, GA

Healthy gums are an important part of a healthy smile. If you have bleeding, swollen, or receding gums, brushing and flossing alone may not reach the bacteria beneath your gumline. At Alpharetta Dental Care, we offer Perio Protect® as a convenient, non-invasive way to support the treatment and maintenance of gum health from home.

What Is Perio Protect®?

Perio Protect® uses a custom-fitted dental tray and prescription gel to deliver medication below the gumline, where toothbrushes and floss may not reach effectively. The tray is made specifically for your mouth using dental impressions or digital scans.

You place the prescribed gel in the tray and wear it for a short period each day, often for about 10 to 15 minutes. The tray’s special seal helps hold the gel against your teeth and gums so it can reach problem areas more effectively.

Your Alpharetta Dental Care provider will recommend the appropriate gel and create a treatment plan based on your gum health. Perio Protect® may be used along with professional cleanings, periodontal treatment, and your regular at-home oral hygiene routine.

What to Expect

Bleeding and puffiness are usually the first things to improve. Over the following months, many patients notice their breath stays fresher through the day. Because the gel is peroxide-based, teeth often look a little whiter as a side benefit. The trays are FDA-cleared, and the routine takes 10 to 15 minutes daily.

Perio Protect works alongside your professional cleanings — not instead of them. Research shows better results when tray therapy and cleanings are combined than with cleanings alone, so we'll keep you on your regular recall schedule. The trays and gel are prescription and dentist supervised.

Benefits of Perio Protect®

Perio Protect® may offer several benefits for patients who need additional support for their gum health, including:

  • Delivers prescription medication below the gumline
  • Helps target bacteria associated with gingivitis and periodontitis
  • May help reduce gum bleeding, swelling, and irritation
  • Offers a simple at-home treatment routine
  • Uses custom trays designed to fit comfortably and securely
  • Can support ongoing periodontal maintenance
  • May help patients care for the areas around crowns, bridges, and dental implants
  • May contribute to fresher breath and a cleaner-feeling mouth

Because treatment is customized, your dentist can adjust your Perio Protect® plan as your gum health changes. Consistent use, professional dental care, and good brushing and flossing habits can work together to help protect your smile.

Is Perio Protect® Right for You?

Perio Protect® may be appropriate if you have gum disease, bleeding gums, deep periodontal pockets, or difficulty managing your gum health with routine care alone. It may also be considered for patients who want to help maintain the health of their gums, crowns, bridges, or dental implants.

The best way to determine whether Perio Protect® is right for you is to schedule an evaluation at Alpharetta Dental Care. We will examine your teeth and gums, discuss your concerns, and explain your treatment options. We can also show you how to use and care for your custom trays.

Perio Protect® is not a substitute for professional dental cleanings or daily brushing and flossing. However, when recommended by your dentist, it can be a convenient addition to your overall periodontal care plan.
